IO2: Authoring tools

In the classroom, immersive learning entails the use of a simulated environment that highly encourages students to have a more engaging and participative role in the learning process. Right from the start, the possibilities and benefits of having an artificial learning environment are endless. This output aims on providing the necessary authorware tools for university students and secondary education teachers for creating immersive educational content and resources. Specifically, university students from three different disciplines, computer science, game design and teacher education, will be provided with authorware tools through a training program. Furthermore, this output will also provide authorware tools to school teachers, in order to build immersive experiences for their classroom. The output will produce the necessary training material and authorware tools will be incorporated in an online Learning Management System such as Moodle or Big Blue Button. The two different target groups for this output, university students and school teachers, will be provided with the basic tools necessary, in order to build immersive software. The topics that will be covered during their training, include basic concepts of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Immersive Video. Upon successful completion of the training, all participants will be able to:

-Describe basic concepts of immersive authoring tools.
-Identify and compare various technologies used in building immersive software and games.
-Design basic immersive software considering limitations of the environment and the needs of the students.
-Bring together various innovative technologies in order to build digital experiences.
